ETHEL CALHOUN
Ethel Calhoun (Bronx, NY) is currently a Teaching Artist for Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs. Ms. Calhoun began training in music and dance at the Bronx House Music School where she learned to play the piano. She received a B.S. degree in Therapeutic Recreation at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, and an M.A. degree in Recreation Administration from New York University. Ms. Calhoun was a Creative Artist at Bellevue Hospital for an adolescent psychiatric in-patient ward, and worked at Harlem Interfaith Counseling Service as a Case Manager and the Program Coordinator of the Creative Arts Program. Ms. Calhoun later pursued a performing arts career, working in theater, with dance companies, and touring nationally and internationally to countries such as Cuba, Honduras, Japan, Budapest, Martinique, Italy, Argentina, France, and throughout the United States with gospel groups. Ms. Calhoun has served as the Camp Director of AileyCamp Miami. Her compassion and ability to teach others have brought her great joy.
